How did the “new guys” perform?

Before the game we touched a bit upon how last night’s game presented an opportunity for the “new guys” to gain some offensive confidence and chemistry with their new teammates. While Skjei had a bit of a rough game, -2 and 2 PIMs, his skating ability was once again on full display.

Vincent Trocheck still looks to be adjusting to his new team. Honestly not that noticeable on the ice during 5v5 play, he did manage to win a few key draws on the penalty kill.

Earning an assist on Nino Niederreiter’s second period power play goal, hopefully he will start gaining some offensive confidence in the coming days and help propel the Canes out of a wildcard spot and into third in the division.

Justin Williams continued his red hot play. With his eighth on the season, he now has goals in five straight. Although the goal was taken back do to off sides, he made a nice play on a Andrei Svechnikov tally that would have extended the Canes lead to three halfway through the third.

Lastly, Morgan Geekie continues to prove that he has what it takes to be a full time NHLer. Scoring his third NHL goal on his third NHL shot, he is taking full advantage of the chances he is getting. What’s more encouraging than the offense, is that he looks to be solid defensively. Winning 75% of his faceoffs, he could become a go to man for the Hurricanes in that aspect down the line.
