Swipe Right For Our Secret Second Favorite Teams
Everyone reading has got that someone they’d swipe right on an app to match with. Just something about them says “yeap..that does it.” You don’t have to keep that a secret. It might even be a hockey team. That one team you pull for when they are not playing the Carolina Hurricanes. You don’t want anyone to know you are silently cheering when they are doing well. That guilty pleasure of a team. Our writers here at Cardiac Canes are no different. We are weak. We know it, and not we lay that at your feet.
Keith Preston-Colorado: I never had a team when I started going to games and they were the first team I watched in person at home.
Ben Huffman- On nights when there are no schedule conflicts with the Hurricanes, I really enjoy watching the Dallas Stars. The Stars are one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch. Like the Canes, they are a team that Is right on the cusp of winning a Stanley Cup, coming up short in the Western Conference Finals last season. Jason Robertson is growing into one of the league’s best goal-scorers. Jake Oettinger is becoming a top goalie. Plus, who doesn’t love rooting for the ageless-wonder Joe Pavelski as he continues to produce as the league continues to get younger?
Harvey Ashner- I can’t say I truly have a secret favorite but if I had to pick an organization as a whole I would go with the Maple Leafs ( yes I’m being serious). I know they’ve had terrible luck in the playoffs. However, they have so much talent and their fanbase is huge. Being that hockey was founded in Canada, I feel like they most likely have a really cool experience. Their fans are electric at times which is how Raleighwood feels.
Avery Thomas- Maybe not a secret second favorite but if I had to choose another team to cheer for I’m gonna have to say the Flyers, for my brother. He’s more of a Philadelphia fan and I’m more of a Carolina fan.
Chris Baker- I do not make a secret about my love of all things Buffalo, New York. Since visiting there in 2017 (maybe..while I remember a lot, the exact time is..blurry), there is nothing that town can do to make me love it less. That goes for the Sabres too. Jeff Skinner was a favorite here, and Skins in my man in Buffalo. My hockey season goal is to make it to Sabres game there this season, and I think it might be in the works to happen. I also make a bet with my friends there. Last year I got a box of Buffalo sauce since the Canes were 2 for 3 against them. San Jose is a distant third, just cause I love the all teal jersey combo. Something about that shade says “4th grade when life was good” to me.
We all bared our souls and told you our secret seconds. What team is your #2?
