The Carolina Hurricanes have inked Jamieson Rees to a 3-year Entry-Level Contract

The Carolina Hurricanes, fresh off of signing 2020 1st Round Draft Pick Seth Jarvis to an entry-level contract 24 hours ago, have tendered yet another contract to another up-and-coming forward prospect.

Jamieson Rees, selected 44th overall in the 2nd round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, has put pen to paper and is now officially a member of the Carolina Hurricanes’ organization. The deal is similar to the one signed by Seth Jarvis, but the salary is staggered for the first two years and the AHL salary is slightly different.

The deal is three years in length and will see Rees paid $700,000 in 2020-21, $750,000 in 2021-22, and $832,500 in 2022-23. The deal will pay Rees $70,000 at the AHL level for all three seasons, and he will receive a very nice signing bonus of $277,500.

More from Cardiac Cane

The 19-year old centerman finished up his third season with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL with 18 goals and 43 assists for a total of 61 points in 39 games played in the 2019-20 season.

Rees also tied for 4th in the OHL in shorthanded goals (5), and 11th in the OHL in Points Per Game (1.56) in the 2019-20 season. Throughout his tenure with Sarnia in the OHL, though, Rees has scored 113 points (33 goals, 80 assists) in 122 career games played.

According to Elite Prospects, “[Rees is] a forward who plays with great intensity. A great team player who works hard and despite his rather modest frame, he gets involved physically. Good with the puck and a capable playmaker.”

Rees likely won’t see time in the big leagues for a year or two, but Carolina Hurricanes’ GM Don Waddell had this to say about him:

“Jamieson is a skilled center with strong playmaking ability. He made major strides in his development last season, and we’re looking forward to his next steps.”

Jamieson Rees is very much a “Rod Brind’amour” style of player; he can both score and kill penalties and is just as effective in the defensive end of the ice as he is in the offensive end. Rees is about as complete a player as you’ll find in the ranks of young up-and-coming talent.

The Carolina Hurricanes’ future gets brighter and brighter every day, and Jamieson Rees is sure to be a big contributor to that brightness going forward.
