Week two of the college hockey season is on the record here in North Carolina.

Appalachian State ended week two still winless, losing to East Carolina 6-4 in Greensboro. The Mountaineers added goals late in the third period but they were not enough to get even or pass the Pirates.

Appalachian State plays UNC-Charlotte next on September 29th in Charlotte.

ECU will also be facing off against the 49ers in Charlotte on September 23rd.

Moving right along to the 49ers of UNC-Charlotte, the 49ers kicked off their season in week two with a 5-4 loss to Coastal Carolina.

The 49ers face East Carolina on the 23rd and then Appalachian State on the 29th. You can catch all the 49ers livestreams on their Youtube Channel

Wake Forest came into week two 2-0 with big games against Virginia Tech and High Point University. The Demon Deacons started the weekend away against the Hockey Hokies in Vinton, Virginia. Wake nailed three in the first frame, but the birds came back with 2 in the second.

Early in the 3rd period Virginia Tech scored to tie things at 3 but the Decs scored an even strength and power play goal in the middle part of the period to make it 5-3. With 3:05 left in the period the Hokies mounted a comeback with a short handed goal to make it 5-4 but that was all the Hokies managed.

Game two of week two against the Panthers of High Point University did not go the way the Demon Deacs would have hoped.

Jumping out to a 2-0 in the first, and quickly making it 3-0 early in the 2nd, Wake Forest had the Panthers 5-1 by the end of the frame.

JR Slayton kicked off scoring for the Panthers in the 3rd at the 14:52 mark with an assist from defensemen Jack Hutchins making it 5-2 Deacons. At 12:05, it was Hutchins’s turn to light the lamp with help from Joe DiMartino. That made things 5-3. Not to be outdone, JR Slayton tallied his 4th goal of the season to bring the Panthers to within one. Jack Hutchins hit his second goal of the game to knot the game at 5, and Defenseman Morgan Bird scored his 1st of the season for a game winner.

The Demon Deacons square off against Elon on the 22nd, while the Panthers will skate against Virginia Tech on the same day. You can stream that game on Virginia Tech Hockey’s YouTube.
On the 23th and 24th, the Panthers will be in Harrisburg, PA for a two game series against the Nittany Lions of Penn State.
