3. Canes are not motivated

A motivated team does not play like the Canes are playing right now. The current four-game losing streak started with a fault in energy from the entire roster. Even Cam Ward, who had been on a hot streak before the loss to the Sharks, had a rough finish to his last start.

Peters tries to shuffle the lines on a consistent basis, and it does not seem to pan out much. Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen were recently slid down to the second line, centered by Derek Ryan. Jeff Skinner, Justin Williams, and Jordan Staal played alongside each other on the top line.

Furthermore, the lamest part of the Canes this season is the defensive effort. Jaccob Slavin and Brett Pesce are not playing like they did a year ago. Justin Faulk is struggling to not turn the puck over each shift and is not producing at his normal level offensively.

A common theme here is going to be that the Canes need a spark. Peters is the cause of the lack of energy they’re playing with on a game-by-game basis. His schemes and ideas are more encouraging than his actual execution with the team’s play on the ice.
