We are going to continue our series of weather as it relates to NHL and learn a little bit about FIRE but first we are going to talk about the Carolina Hurricanes games against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Last Wednesday the Hurricanes played the Philadelphia Flyers at home in Raleigh. Pyotr Kochetkov got the start at goalie, and despite the outcome, played a good game. The Canes lost 3-1 and Stefan “Nosey” Noesen scored the only goal for Carolina.

But just like good teams do, the Hurricanes bounced back from this loss by beating the Pittsburgh Penguins. Seth “Nap Time” Jarvis had two goals, Sebastian “Fishy” Aho, and Brent “Kit-Kat” Burns each scored one. Antti Raanta got the win at goalie!

After playing not so great against the Flyers, the Hurricanes came out and played really well against the Penguins.

Now, let’s talk a little about FIRE. Do you know what it has to do with hockey?

Any idea?

Take a guess!

FIRE IS A CHEMICAL REACTION.

If you guessed the Calgary Flames, you would be right! The Calgary Flames are a NHL team that plays in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They are in the Western Conference so the Hurricanes do not play them often.

Flames are another way to describe FIRE. But do you know what FIRE is, or how it works?

FIRE IS A CHEMICAL REACTION. When heat and a fuel source combine with oxygen in the air it creates FIRE.

You might learn in school that if your clothes ever catch on FIRE, you should STOP, DROP and ROLL around.

Here is a video to help you learn STOP, DROP AND ROLL

It is very important to know that FIRE can be fun for roasting marshmallows or lighting fireworks, but is not a toy. If you are not careful, you could hurt yourself, burn down a building, or even whole forests.
