Everyone’s favorite or for some worst night of the year is scheduled for February 10, 2024. The Hartford Whalers will return to Raleigh for their annual night and the Canes have a new set of uniforms for the occasion.
Of course, this is not necessarily new but “old-new” if you will. Normally the Hurricanes don classic all-green uniforms for the Whalers appreciation night but this season, they will have the white jerseys with green shorts.
The release of the uniforms even teased a photo with the classic Cooperalls look that will be worn for the warm-ups that evening. The Philadelphia Flyers brought back the Cooperall look last season with their reverse retro uniforms.
The Whalers look has returned in past years, mostly through the “Whalers Night”. Another alternative form of the Hartford look was when the reverse retro was in grey, a solid look and a new take on the classic design.
It is nice to see some variety brought to the fun evening as the green jersey was losing its luster after so many years. The design and color scheme were used so well by the original organization that the Canes have succeeded in showing the hockey world all of the versions.
Personally, I would love to see the navy blue Whalers jerseys next season. I think that would be a hit and it is a jersey that has been in the shadow of the greens recently.
Understandably the group of fans that only want to see the franchise they cheer on and let the past be the past. It is just for fun and only one evening, so try to enjoy it!
It is a good way to get the Canes in the discussions of all NHL fans around the world. Don’t be surprised if the return of the whale is included in the next outdoor game, whenever that may be.
