No one said it better when Bob Wills (who’s still the king) sang.

“If no news is good news then I should be happy,

Cause honey you know you ain’t wrote a line,

Goose Creek Symphony (one of my top 15 bands) sang “no news is good news”

If you’ve never heard either of these songs, that’s ok. I’ve embedded them below as a little glimpse into my musical tastes AND tied them into an article about the Carolina Hurricanes.

“Why?” You ask.

Because “no news” is what we have had (for the most part) from the Hurricanes this off season.

Well. Some cloak and dagger stuff in signing Michael Bunting and Dmitry Orlov. But nothing on the big resignings the Hurricanes have left to complete. With the notable exception of Jordan Staal, Carolina has not really tied up any loose ends left as mysteries at least.

And I am perfectly fine with that.

“Why?” You might be asking again

No news is good news! No official word about the big names means they are coming back!

My confidence stems from the logic that these players and Carolina Hurricanes GM Don Waddell have reached an unofficial agreement to take care of the small stuff first and what’s left will be divvied up at the end. It shows the confidence in the players that Waddell has, while simultaneously showing the respect in the Hurricanes the players have.

This happened last year, and the year before that.

Get the little stuff (Andersen..Gag, Raanta…Cool, Staal..makes sense, Draft picks) taken care of on the first course, then sit down to the main course with the people you really want.

No news is good news too with (holding my nose) Tony DeAngelo.

As The Bare Naked Ladies sang “It’s been one week” or a little more since talk of TDA’s return and nothing has happened. A move would have been announced by now.

Because it has taken so long, and the Hurricanes have moved on Lemieux, I don’t think it will.

They got a poor man’s Tony DeAngelo for cheap, and have invited enough headaches.

“Time heals all wounds, and wounds all heels.” The lack of big time, hard hitting news from the Carolina Hurricanes does, understandably, have Canes fans in a tizzy. We want the team set and ready to take the ice yesterday. But I am here to tell you “No news is good news.”
