Look, I know I just wrote about not questioning Don Waddell, and I am really not here for that, but really?!?!?

Really???

We’re making moves on “Mr. Healthy Scratch” and not the key players on the roster? We made moves on a 3 point player, instead of Calvin de Haan?

Let’s get real.

Sure de Haan was (rightfully and realistically) salty about having a career year interrupted by a trade deadline move on Shayne Gosthisbehere that didn’t pan out. And “Ghost Bear” was lukewarm about Carolina and his time here. I get it.

But at least both of them produced.

Coghlan had just 3 points “fer da season boys” and has a whopping..wait for it……..22 points on a NHL career. His shooting percentage this year…..0.00.

Again…Usually I am not negative towards players on the ice or the GM in the big office, but Mercury must be in retrograde because this is absolutely the oddest move I can think of.

Resigning Dylan Coghlan? For a 1 year deal at almost the same rate. To watch from the pressbox.

I could do that.

Granted I have no hockey experience, much less NHL experience, but I am an 11 game STM with the Canes (why the crap do you think I am doing this, but to pay for my tickets??) so that means that I saw just 6 fewer games than Dylan Coghlan played.

Sign me up for a 1 year deal at the league minimum. I’ll quit writing and go to every game too.

The Hurricanes have left very solid players, namely Calvin de Haan, go and could potentially lose more, but we have Dylan Coghlan! And by golly! We have him good!

He’s our best hope!

Coghlan is a hope alrighty. But shew boys, he’s not the best. By a long shot.

Compared to the rest of the Hurricanes at similar points in their career, Coghlan does have better numbers, so there is the hope that he breaks out with more ice time.

Still his numbers are in the regular season when things are a little bit calmer than say…they playoffs. Which, if I am not mistaken is where the Hurricane ultimately want to win it and win it big.

And lest we forget, the rest of the Hurricanes I compared in the article linked above, did the same amount of work our young master Dylan has, at younger ages or more quickly in their playing careers.

July 3rd was a super full moon, I just confirmed Mercury is in retrograde, we have a high pressure front stuck over Raleigh, I burned my hotdogs last night, and well…I work in a glass building that doesn’t have AC…but by golly the Hurricanes have signed Dylan “Mr. Healthy Scratch” Coghlan.

All is well in the universe…..All is well in the universe….All is well in the universe
