We are going to talk a little about trades the Carolina Hurricanes might or might not make, but first let’s talk turkey about trades.

A trade is when two, sometimes three or four, people have something other folks want, and they will give up something to get that.

An example of a trade you might make is for a hockey card you want. I have some hockey cards, and the Most Junior Hurricanes Report and I trade.

Maybe I have a Brent Burns card he might want (Brent Burns is his favorite) so say
“Hey MJHR, what would you give me, if I gave you this Brent Burns card?”

He will come up with something that he wants to give up for the Brent Burns card. Sometimes it is going to bed right away, or a bite of his popsicle. Sometimes it is another hockey card.

Trades work best when everyone involved gets something they want, or needs.

Have you traded anything?

Maybe during lunch, at school you might trade your dessert for one you want more. Your buddy doesn’t want their dessert but they want yours. You can make a trade.

You get what you want, your bud’s dessert, and your buddy gets what they want, your dessert.

Trades are nicer than just taking something from someone because they get something in return. They are certainly better than just giving up something you want to someone without getting something in return.

Maybe you try to trade something sometime in the next article. See how it works!

It could be hockey cards, desserts, or coloring pages. You name it.

One trade that has been talked about that the Hurricanes might make is for Tony DeAngelo.

If that name sounds familiar, it is because Tony DeAngelo has already played for the Carolina Hurricanes once.

The Hurricanes traded Tony DeAngelo to the Philadelphia Flyers for a draft pick.

Just like with the MJHR and me, the Hurricanes said to the Flyers

“Hey, Flyers, we want a draft pick and we’ll give you something.”

The Flyers told the Hurricanes

“We want Tony DeAngelo.”

The Canes said

“Okay, deal! We give you a Tony DeAngelo, you give us a draft pick”

Tony DeAngelo now plays for the Flyers, and the Hurricanes got a draft pick. BUT the Canes might trade for him again. They will have to now give the Flyers something to get Tony DeAngelo back.

One player the Hurricanes will not be trading is Jordan Staal. They just signed Staal to a four year contract.

Part of that contract say that the Hurricanes will not trade Jordan Staal for the next four years!

That means we can cheer Staal for a little bit longer!

Kids Canes Challenge Answer:

We asked what a trade is, and we have learned that trading means two (sometimes three) people give each other something.

Trades are better than just giving something to someone, or just getting something from someone.
