Ave’s Faves: Overtime Win and More Moments from Game 4
Hi, fellow Caniacs! Welcome to the first Ave’s Faves feature, where I write about moments that I feel stood out the most during games. I probably could’ve started this feature sooner, but it’s never too late to try something new. Holy moly was tonight a game to watch.
Moments that sound the siren:
- That overtime win!! I don’t know about the rest of y’all but I was super stressed throughout overtime. When the Canes got a powerplay, I was thinking “Yes, now is the opportunity,” but I was also thinking “Oh no, get it together guys.” Thank you Jesper Fast for sealing the deal for Carolina! Now I can sleep peacefully until the Eastern Conference finals.
- Brent Burns’ wrist shot in the second period. What I like best about Burns is that his playing style is so adaptable. He can be a strong defenseman when needed, but he excels at offense as well. He saw that chance to score and took it. That was a tricky angle, but that aim was perfect and it went through the five-hole.
- Jaccob Slavin’s assist during Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s goal because that shot was so satisfying to watch. Slavin was pretty far from the net, so I’m surprised he made it! I’m glad he did.
- The Storm Surge. It’s infamous or iconic depending on how you look at it, and it’s been a while since the Canes have done one after a win. Tonight was the perfect night to bring it back. I’d like to see more creative ones after future wins, like this Thor reenactment.
Honorable mentions:
- The DJ’s music choices since I’m that weird person who vibes to whatever music is playing during the game, whether I’m watching from my couch or actually at PNC. “No Hands” and “Pepas” will always create a hype atmosphere. Also, I’m a huge Red Hot Chili Peppers fan and I’m digging that “Can’t Stop” remix.
Moments that go in the penalty box:
- This game was intense, but stressful to watch. You want a game to keep your attention and make you want to keep watching, but I could feel the gray hairs coming in despite being 23 years old. At least it kept myself and other fans on the edge of their seats.
- This leans into the media and PR aspect of a game, but 5-Hour Energy’s commercial that asks “Remember college?”. That’s smart marketing, but a little too relatable.
That’s all for tonight, although I probably missed some moments. I’m nervous for the Eastern Conference finals, but looking forward to them because I know they’ll be exciting. Until next time, how about them Devils, fellow Caniacs!?
