The Metro Division-winning Carolina Hurricanes start the opening round of the playoffs tomorrow as they host the New York Islanders at PNC Arena.

After an up-and-down finish to the season that came down to the last night, the Hurricanes begin the second season of the NHL and will be doing so in style.

As the run for the Stanley Cup begins, the Canes will be donning the 25th-anniversary jerseys worn during the season. The original red jerseys were a hit during the season and were more importantly very successful on the ice.

Although the normal wear for the playoffs of late is the all-black look, this team could use the change.

The anniversary jersey was worn 12 times this season and the Canes won 10 games of those 12 contents. A season full of several jerseys including the new reverse retro and Stadium Series jersey, the anniversary jersey was the right choice.

A look back to the origins of the franchise was needed and it was also the jersey that was worn when the Stanley Cup was won.

Sure the uniforms do not make a difference in the outcome of the game but it is never a bad thing to have all the vibes in a positive direction.

In the 12 games played with the anniversary jersey this season, the Canes have scored 48 goals and surrendered just 25 to the opposition. This included a shutout against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 9th.

As the new season begins for this group, it is only fitting that they begin with the classic jerseys that the coach raised the cup in.

The next uniform question will be what combination is worn for the road games. The red helmets were a nice change of pace but personally, I think it is time to return to the traditional white helmets.
