After being shut out for a second straight night by the New Jersey Devils last night, the Carolina Hurricanes have added a forward to the roster. Jack Drury has been called up from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
The Canes top prospect was called up to the big club in November and played for just under two months after multiple injuries occurred to the NHL roster.
In 21 games this season Drury has 2 assists The New York native had 10 penalty minutes and was a plus 4 with an average time on ice of 9:50. In his last game before being returned to Chicago, he played 10 shifts and just over five minutes on the ice in Pittsburgh.
Since returning to Chicago Drury has played important minutes and recently had a 2 goal, 3 point night on March 3rd.
In his last 11 games, Drury has 9 points as the Wolves have started to turn around their season. Overall, the former first round draft choice has 11 goals and 24 points in 37 games.
The plan for the Hurricanes may have been to bring up players like Pyotr Kochetkov and Drury but both players have now been called up in the last week due to necessity.
Andrei Svechnikov went down with an injury against the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night and was unable to play against the Devils on Sunday.
Whether Svechnikov will be out for longer is unknown but either way, Drury may have an opportunity to make a case for a spot on the roster come playoff time.
