George Washington had Nathaniel Greene. Steve Jobs had Steve Wozniak. The Carolina Hurricanes have Jordan Martinook. Time and time again Martinook has proven he is Mr. Hustle of the Canes. But 2022-23 is not just a “C’s get degrees” year with the Canes though. In his 5th season in Raleigh, he has now matched, will match, or surpassed his career bests in almost every offensive category. And the season still has 22 games left.

Goals: 11

Martinook is sitting at 11 on the year so far. While he has not scored since February 1st, he is still tied with Brady Skjei for 6th on the team. His career-best 15 back in his first with with Carolina during the 2018-19 season. Only four away, it is completely possibly Martinook meets or bests his career record by the end of the season.

Assists:17

At 17, Martinook finds himself 8th on the team just behind Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Brett Pesce who each have 18. His career best had been 15 back in 2015-16 with Arizona. Playing on the Staalwarts line, which has been one of Carolina’s most productive, has definitely led to this rise in assists, and that 17 will likley be a lot higher by the end of the season

Points:28

Twice in his career, Jordan Martinook has tallied 26 points in a season. Once during the 2016-17 season with Arizona ( 11 G, 14 A) and once during 2018-19’s Hurricanes’ campaign ( 25 G, 10, A). Pointing out Carolina’s all around offensive potential, 28 points nets Martinook 8th place, and one behind line make Jordan Staal.

+/-: +8

By far, this is a career best. Previously, Martinook has only managed +1 seasons twice. His career worst is -28 so even a +1 is a vast improvement. At his highest, he has been in the +14 over short stretches during the season. Here again, on a team NOT the Carolina Hurricanes, +8 would be sitting pretty, but with only one player on their roster below 0, Martinook finds himself in the bottom half of the team at 9th.

SHP: 2

Jordan Martinook is not on the ice for penalty kills often. His career best in a single season in 3. At 2, it is likely he might sneak in another before the year is up to tie his personal best. As it stands, his 2 SHP puts him third on the 2022-23 Hurricanes. Only Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, and Jesper Fast have more.

Hat Tricks: 1

Against the St. Blues, Jordan Martinook tied his career high hat trick mark earlier this season. Any hat trick is special, and this was his first as a Carolina Hurricane.

GP: 61

Though the season is not over, this it perhaps the most important stat for everyone who cares. Hampered by injuries in several of his previous years with the Canes, Jordan Martinook has not had the chance to play and produce like he would have had he been health. We can wait and see, but this 61 is apt to read 84 by the end of the year which is fantastic. It has not happened for Martinook with the Canes, and only a career best 82 has happened once with Arizona.

This season, it is safe to say, will be a career year for Jordan Martinook. Being healthy, playing on the Staalwarts line with Jordan Staal and Jesper Fast, and continuing to build on a pretty solid career has put Martinook in this position. Night in and night out, he is out hustling his opponents and working to put the Carolina Hurricanes in a position to win. You cannot ask for much more
