The Carolina Hurricanes have been very busy the last two days leading up to the NHL trade deadline on Friday. General Manager Don Waddell has seen the Metro division rivals get stronger via trade and he answered.

After acquiring forward Jesse Puljujarvi from the Edmonton Oilers yesterday for Patrik Puistola to address the depth up front, the Canes have added to the defensive depth.

Today, the Canes acquired defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Carolina’s 2026 third-round draft choice.

Having struggled on the man advantage at times this season, Gostisbehere immediately strengthens the power play greatly.

This season the former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman has 10 goals and 21 assists for a strong 31 points. On the power play, he has 3 goals and 7 assists.

Having a solid first pass out of the defensive zone combines with good speed and vision, which allows Gostisbehere to really contribute to the offensive side of things.

The ability to play a main role in the power play will strengthen the wear and tear of other defensemen like Brady Skjei as he will now not have to log extra minutes on the man advantage.
