The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the St. Louis Blues by a convincing score of 4-1 at PNC Arena this evening.

The Canes never trailed in this contest and controlled the lead for the majority of the night.

All-Star winger Andrei Svechnikov began the scoring with the first two goals of the game to give the Canes a 2-0 lead early in the first period.

This was the first goal of 2023 for Svechnikov as he has been on a scoreless streak of 19 games heading into this match. The goals were Svechnikov’s 20th and 21st goals of the campaign.

Seth Jarvis had two helpers on the pair of Svechnikov goals in the first period.

Frederik Andersen did not have much work in the first and the defense kept the puck clear of dangerous spots. The penalty kill was also flawless and held the Blues to no shots on their first power play.

Old friend Justin Faulk got the road team on the board when he snapped a shot from the slot past Andersen.

For much of the second period, the Hurricanes controlled play and were forcing constant pressure in the offensive zone.

Jordan Binnington had a few highway robberies in the second to keep the Canes lead stuck at one until Sebastian Aho was able to tuck one in by Binnington at the foot of the goal.

Svechnikov also got a helper on the Aho goal.

The Hurricanes and Blues began the third period with Carolina leading by 2 goals. That would change early in the third when Jarvis would complete a three point night with a goal off a give away by the Blues’ defense.

From that point on the home team continued to control the game despite a few careless penalties.

Svechnikov and Jarvis ended the night with 3 points while Brent Burns and Sebastian Aho had multi point games for themselves.

The goaltending was tremendous in the late portion of the game as Andersen finished with 35 saves. Both teams finished the night with 36 shots.

After a rocky return from the All-Star break shaky but has returned sharp after sitting against the Montreal Canadiens.
