As the Carolina Hurricanes fine-tune the game plan against the Pittsburgh Penguins this evening, Canes fans have another intriguing uniform nugget ahead of the big game.

It is the season for gifts and the Hurricanes appear to have a trick up their sleeve tonight.

Walt Ruff teased fans on Twitter that we would be getting “a new Canes uniform combo”.

In the past, the Hurricanes have donned different combinations of red, black, and white. The recent reverse retro jerseys had black shorts and helmets with the red jersey.

Naturally, Hurricanes will need to wear white as the road team so the combinations are limited.

The curveball could be that the Penguins are wearing a white jersey that forces the Hurricanes to have a dark-colored jersey.

In all likelihood, the Hurricanes will wear the normal road white jersey and mix in black helmets and black shorts.

Would the gray Whalers jersey be in play?

Your guess is as good as mine!
