The Carolina Hurricanes have drafted with the 13th overall pick.

The Carolina Hurricanes have chosen Seth Jarvis as the lucky number 13th pick of the 2020 NHL Draft. How soon can he really make an impact?

The first pick for the Hurricanes is finally here. Thanks to the Patrick Marleau trade made last year during the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the Carolina Hurricanes got the Toronto Maple Leafs’ first-round pick, which was a great decision considering they had to give up their 22nd overall pick to the New York Ranger thanks to the Brady Skjei trade made at the deadline.

With that lucky number 13th overall pick of the 2020 Draft, they selected Seth Jarvis of the WHL’s Portland WinterHawks. An 18-year-old right-winger/center that can start his professional career with the Chicago Wolves as soon as next season. He ranked anywhere between the 11th and the 29th pick of this draft and will be a solid addition to the Carolina Hurricanes family.

A lot of fans had their hearts set out for Russian goaltender Iaroslav Askarov, but he got nabbed earlier by the Nashville Predators. But don’t let that get you down. Seth Jarvis is exactly what the Carolina Hurricanes need for the future. A pressure forward that can attack the puck like the best of them. He has the skill needed to make it to the NHL sooner rather than later.

Jarvis has a serious ability to control the puck and find his teammates in advantageous positions. Sure he isn’t the best or fastest skater in this draft, but those are skills that can be developed. He makes up for that by being an extremely gifted passer and an even better shooter.

A year or so with the Wolves can bring out the best in this kid and have him ready to be serious depth for the Hurricanes and even ready to move up permanently sooner than you think. He has the skills and talent to make an impact.

Looking back at his last season with the Winterhawks he played 58 games and racked up 42 goals and 56 assists. That is 98 points. Sure it’s the WHL, but that is still a serious point per game pace. This kid can be a household name in Carolina like Andrei Svechnikov or Sebastian Aho in a few simple years. Only time will tell how far he will go.
