The Carolina Hurricanes prepare to take on the New York Rangers

The Carolina Hurricanes go into their second day of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs Training Camp preparing to take on the New York Rangers. Here are some interesting takeaways.

Another day, another training camp. Not going to lie, I am quite envious of the limited reporters who do get to go into PNC Arena and enjoy the chilly air by the ice. It is not fun writing these articles in a humid room. But that is just a reminder that it is, indeed, the middle of summer and the season has yet to be over.

So while the sun boils our skin outside, lets take a peek inside and see what the Carolina Hurricanes are doing in their second day at training camp. While you don’t expect to much difference from one day to another, there are a couple of takeaways as the team continues it’s 21 prep for the playoffs.

Martin Necas is Back

That’s right folks. No need for alarm. While the reasoning for his absence yesterday is still a mystery, it is obvious now that we can cross out COVID-19 as the reason behind Martin Necas not being at day one of camp. Don’t worry, I have visual proof:

Now it was clear that he has yet to fully retain his mid-season form that had him at one point in serious contention for the Calder. The first time back on the ice for Necas is naturally going to be a shaky one. While I’m not certain where he fit into the practice line-ups today, he has still to move his way back into the second line. But that is expected considering he is a full day behind his peers.

Rod Brind’amour isn’t concerned about where Necas is heading and if he can continue to deliver at the pace we can expect:

Give him a few weeks and we will be watching another star forward fill out this Hurricanes roster to create what will hopefully be a dynasty of southern hockey.

Aho is Good, Water is Wet

More from Cardiac Cane

We already knew that Sebastian Aho was an excellent hockey player, what the real takeaway is is the fact that even with four months off, he doesn’t look like he has missed even a single day of skating. Now this can be somewhat attributed to the fact he did get to skate in Europe from time to time, but it can mostly be attributed to his pure skill level.

We haven’t really seen a player this good in Carolina History since Eric Staal. Even then Aho has the chance to go beyond names like Staal, Brind’amour, or even Francis. The good news is that he is currently signed for the next four years regardless. Thanks Montreal, we owe you big time!

All joking aside, the fact that a player as good as Aho is locked up at the discount price that he is currently at (for such star power) is elevate this team moving forward.

Edmundson Can Drink Coffee Through His Mask

This one is pretty much a superpower. But as the team came in this morning, Joel Edmundson either forgot his mask was on, or can drink his coffee through it because he appeared to take a loving sip from it as they reported in, mask donned. For a man as magic as Eddy, I am banking on the latter.

That should be the hype video moving forward. No team is going to be able to think straight on the ice when they face a man that has no issues with scalding hot coffee drenching his face mask. Did he do it on purpose? Does he do this all the time? How does it not burn? Can he truly feel no pain? Mess around and find out.

Question for CC Readers: How excited are you now that the team is fully present and accounted for?
