The Carolina Hurricanes may have lost but did so in OT, they continue a much needed point streak into Nashville, and here is who will step up tonight.

See losing is OK as long as it’s in OT and the Canes get a point out of it. Although at this point in the season, you have to start thinking that winning is more important, especially in the Metro.

The Canes top guys and top line, SAT line, continue to score and impress, but for how long will this hold up? Can others step up, and if not can SAT line continue to produce? We will find out tonight that is for sure.

But in terms of us Caniacs getting our hopes up and starting Canes players in fantasy, we have to look at better patterns of production. Let’s break down some of the top guys we can rely on night in and night out.

This guy is something special. Yes 10 points in the last 5 games, a 9 game point streak with 9 goals and 6 assists in that time in incredible. But let’s take a deeper look at what is on the line for Aho this season.

As a note all compared stats will come from a player who played for the Carolina Hurricanes post move, 1997-present. Aho is chasing quite a few single season stats this year. According to Hockey Reference the current single season holders are as follows; Goals: Eric Staal with 45, Assists: Rod the Bod with 56, Points: Eric Staal with 100, and Short handed goals: Keyvn Adams with 5.

Aho has, in respective order: 33 goals, 23 assists, 56 points, and 3 short handed goals. While all of these are attainable, Aho is well on pace to break singe season goals and short handed goals. Assists and total points are not far off though especially with another deep post season run.

The next greatest Russian to play in the NHL is having quite a season as well. Svechnikov has 23 goals, 31 assists, and 54 points on the year, just behind Aho.

Svechnikov is also riding a point streak, this of 7 games and 9 points in those 7 games. It must also be noted, once again, that Svechnikov is 19, he is a sophomore with no signs of a slump. Him and Aho will carry this team if needed, but it’s about how long they can without getting burnt out. Don’t see this happening any time soon, so keep him in on fantasy.

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – FEBRUARY 16: Jaccob Slavin #74 of the Carolina Hurricanes moves the puck against the Edmonton Oilers during the second period at PNC Arena on February 16, 2020 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Oilers won 4-3 in overtime. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images)

Did you know Slavin has 30 points on the year with 25 assists? Yea neither did we; had to do a double take at the stat sheet. But sure enough, and on top of that he has 8 points in the last 9 games!

Slavin was able to not have to score or even find assists as much with Dougie on his line doing all the offensive work. With Hamilton out Slavin has had to keep being the best defenseman in the NHL as well as work offensively. Luckily he has risen to the challenge.

Much like the super stars on the SAT line, Slavin could use some help, but for now he’s going to have to do it all.

Canes Playoff Push

More from Cardiac Cane

The Carolina Hurricanes are still out of the playoff picture as of today. The Canes are 1 point behind WC2 with 1 game in hand and 2 points outside of WC1 with 2 games in hand. It should also be noted that the Canes are 2 points out of Metro 3, but with no games in hand.

So for tonight, in order of rooting importance we have:

Canes > Nash

Columbus > Philly, unfortunately, also in regulation

Leafs > Pens

Red Wings > Habs

The Canes seem to be very up and down with little depth scoring putting them as the underdog tonight. If Reimer can get the start, being away, and the D can pick it up for him. The Canes could give Nashville a run for their money, and help you get some back after the loss on Sunday.

Canes get a close but good one 3-2 tonight.
