After a bad game, the Carolina Hurricanes need to find their rhythm to win a few on the road. Here is who to expect to get that done tonight.
That game was simply not good, like at all. Possibly the worst second half of the season pushed the Canes off of the edge, and left no room for a comeback. The Red Wings could have outplayed the Canes in period two on Tuesday…
We press on, and as usual try to find the positives to lift the hopes of the Caniac faithful. There actually were some positives last game, believe it or not. The boys could have essentially left their sticks in the locker after the second but came back to score two goals in the third. Williams got some better ice time, possibly to ramp up his duties going forward.
At the end of the day, Tuesday came and went, and we look ahead. Tonight seems like it HAS to be a win now sitting outside of the wild card. Everyone knows this, but who will tighten up and save the day?
With the consistency of the Canes lines oddly resembling a milkshake, it’s hard to tell who will play with whom until, quite frankly, puck drop. That being said there are a few players with the skill, talent, and grit to find the score sheet regardless of the lines.
Martin Necas is one of those guys. Necas shows excellent skill, speed, and hockey IQ night in and night out. He is a menace on the wing with some nasty dangles. More importantly he had what seemed like the first power play goal in forever on Tuesday. With neither line performing as a top line someone had to step up and accomplish something on the PP.
If Necas can generate more PP offense, that’s more fantasy points, and a Canes win.
Foegele now has 3 points in 2 games. This is another guy that doesn’t need certain line-mates but will go out and give his all every night.
While pure talent and skill might not seem as prevalent, or at least as flashy in Foegele as it is in Necas, Foegele has amazing grit. He is a very physical forward who isn’t afraid to forecheck and backcheck to get the puck and make a play at the net.
Since the William’s rotation began a few weeks ago there are certain guys that knew they had to step up. Foegele, unfortunately, is one of those guys, but has done an amazing job. He’s going to set up whoever he is playing with tonight, and if its Svechnikov, or Williams, a goal will likely follow.
Another player that has been consistent in the past handful of games is Andrei Svechnikov. Much like Sebastian Aho has been, and was noted in the last fantasy article.
Svechnikov has 5 points in the last 5 games. Besides possibly being the best Russian in the NHL, Svechnikov has a knack for putting matters into his own hands. If the team is down, Svechnikov is there to score. His shifts get faster and more intense as the game goes on.
If Svechnikov can start as hot, and agressive, as he finishes tonight, the Canes will win. The whole team is aware of the playoff situation, and aware that the problem can only be solved one game at a time. That being said, Svechnikov will make it his mission to put the Canes on his back each game and carry the team back to the playoffs again.

The Hurricanes are back as the favorite tonight as they usually are against the West. This will be a rather evenly matched game with some safe bets to place tonight. Canes will get this one and get back on track. With Reimer in net, unless Aho and Svechnikov pop off, it would be safe to take the under and the Canes on the spread. Canes win 3-1.
