Better Goaltending

Another aspect that hasn’t been great as of late is Hurricanes goaltending, and specifically Petr Mrazek.

After Petr had a decent start to the season his numbers have been very streaky as of late and in his last 7 games he has allowed 16 goals. This doesn’t seem like much but when you look at the breakdown game by game it’s clear how inconsistent it is. In these past 7 games he has had one shutout but 4 games with 3 or more goals let in.

Petr’s play as of late has been putting some more pressure on James Reimer to be the better goalie for the Canes, and although he has stepped up as of late his numbers are still very streaky on the year as well.

Last season for the Hurricanes, goaltending was definitely a worry going into the year but Curtis McElhinney and Petr Mrazek were an amazing duo who turned out to be an surprise battle for who was the better starter. Looking at this season though I think it’s more of a who can play better and be more consistent situation.

Hopefully these next two months we can all be proven wrong.
