Following tonight’s win against the Philadelphia Flyers, news broke that former Carolina Hurricanes captain Justin Williams has re-signed with the team.

DAD IS FINALLY BACK Y’ALL!!!! IT HAPPENED. IT FINALLY HAPPENED.

Following tonight’s nail biting win against the Flyers,  news broke that Carolina Hurricanes legend, Justin Williams, the 3 time Stanley Cup champion and Conn Smythe winner had re-signed with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Reports were coming in throughout the week that he was in talks with the Hurricanes about a return. As well as there being other teams in the mix like the Maple Leafs and the Bruins to name a few.

Back on September 2nd, it was announced that Williams would be stepping away from the NHL. A decision I fully supported. He said that he was unsure of his aspirations when it came to hockey. Well, now he’s found himself and is ready for one last ride.

In the press release that came out following the game against the Flyers, Justin  Williams has signed a one year base contract worth $700,000 with the potential for him to make $1.3 million in bonuses. Williams’ new contract is set to run through the remainder of this season. In that same press release Don Waddell stated that they had been in frequent contact with Williams.

“We’ve been in frequent contact with Justin over the last few months regarding his status,” said Waddell. “We’re thrilled that he has decided to return to playing, and we’re confident that adding him to our group will help us both on and off the ice.”

More from Cardiac Cane

Williams resigning with the Hurricanes comes to the overwhelming jubilation of the Hurricanes faithful. Canes twitter, which was already going nuts following the OT win against the Flyers, collectively lost their minds when the news broke about him resigning. I personally was getting caught up on My Hero Academia when I saw the notification pop up and promptly lost the remote in my celebration.

Having Justin Williams back in the lineup will obviously fill some holes and fix some issues on and off the ice. His leadership skills are exemplary. However, having him back also raises some questions. Who will be moved to fit him back in the line up?  Who will wear the captain C?  Tune in next time on Cardiac Cane.

But for now, lets just enjoy the fact that Justin Williams is back in a Carolina Hurricanes uniform. I guarantee that PNC Arena will give him a standing ovation on Friday when they take on Arizona.
