Martin Necas has been known so far this season to have spurts of hot and cold streaks. It may be Winter now, but for the Hurricanes Necas is heating up again.

Martin Necas had an incredible run from late October to mid-November. The Hurricanes rookie amassed 15 points in 20 games during that span. After that, Necas had a lower-body injury that sidelined him for a few games.

After returning to the lineup, Necas didn’t seem like himself. He went on a point drought for eight games straight.

Once his original linemate, Erik Haula returned to the lineup with him, things started to click. Necas finally broke through in the home game against the Florida Panthers with an assist, the following game he had a monster night with two goals and two assists against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Necas has the underrated skill that goes unnoticed for a third-line player. His edge-work and speed really sparks the depth of the Hurricanes where opposing teams have difficulty defending against multiple dangerous lines.

Ever since the Ryan Dzingel-Erik Haula-Martin Necas has been reunified, they have combined for 17 points in 5 games. That’s insane for a third line, you wouldn’t have predicted this line being the third line, being a fan years ago.

It’s a new year for Necas and he can keep the ball rolling, since it’s now dropped in New York. Though, last night he took a puck to the face and took abuse from the Montreal Canadiens without any help from the officials. You would like to hope everything will be fine, especially with a day off on New Years for rest.

Early in the season, Necas was in the minds of analysts for being in the race for the Calder Trophy. With the slump, he has fell behind in that race, but stays competitive with his performance of late. However by this point, Cale Makar may have the race sealed.

Necas has had a good 2019. He won a Calder Cup with the Charlotte Checkers, with lots of credit to him. He finally got his shot for a permanent spot in the NHL with the Hurricanes. Now, he’s going to have a great 2020 with the Hurricanes with hopefully a good experience in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in a few months.

Question for Cardiac Cane Readers: Will Martin Necas keep rolling, heading into the new year?
