The Carolina Hurricanes go back up to Canada to start a new win streak, and look to the trend setters to help them find their groove.
Well, Saturday night did not go as expected that is for sure. The Canes while dominating most all of the team stats, seemed lethargic. Could it have been jet lag, did Aho not have his morning Coffee? Either way, it’s an 82 game season and the Canes press on.
For some reason the canes have been red hot on the road recently, and since Petr Mrazek got the home start Saturday, James Reimer will like get the nod in the Net today. Petr is still our boy and the Canes fan favorite but Reimer has been killing it on the road, this would be the right choice for today.
Matinee time folks so wake up, you can nap after the game. Who do we look to in fantasy today to get the Canes and your team back on a win streak? Let’s discuss.
This is an actual picture of Reimer taken just this morning before the morning skate.
In all seriousness Reimer has been absolutely amazing recently. He is actually 6-1 in his last 7 games and these have all been on the road.
Reimer has been what the Canes needed to give relief to Mrazek, but he has also been the absolute answer on the road this season.
There are too many good saves this man has made recently to post them all so just enjoy this gem. But in terms of fantasy, the Canes as a team are angry and looking for revenge. They will win this game whatever it takes. And with a brick wall in the goal tonight, that’s 2 points in fantasy for you.
Worst case scenario, Marzek gets the nod again and you don’t lose any fantasy points. Reimer will be a good option to pick up as a goalie if you haven’t with how hot he has been. If you have a struggling starter, James is a good way to pick up two points during away games and not have to worry about losing any on the home games.
Nino Niederreiter had a few struggles early on in the year but he has gotten back into his groove. Nino was a huge asset in the late playoff run for the Canes last season, so a lot was expected out of him this year. We are glad to see him finally playing with his speed and strength to his best ability.
In the last 7 games Nino has 5 points and 2 of them in the last game alone. Nino was really this biggest upside from the tough loss on Saturday. With an even strength goal and a power play assist, Nino kept the Panthers from earning a shut out.
Nino stays hot and fills the gaps today. He has been playing great since being moved to second line with Aho and Teravainen. Nino will have some sort of offensive point today, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him strike first!
Have you ever met a cuter best friend couple? These two are up there with Hamilton and Svechnikov for buddies of the year.
On a statistical note Sebastian Aho is in the top 5 in the NHL for scoring right now. He is on FIRE. And Teuvo Teravainen has 10 points in the last 7 games. Both of these guys are a must for fantasy hockey, and with them on the same line you will hear a lot of; goal scored by one assisted by the other. I mean they have some Finnish telepathy for Teravainen to know where Aho was against the Jets with that no look pass.
And if the stats aren’t enough for you, Aho has had his coffee… 4 cups this morning. And if Aho has his coffee, he’s scoring.
