Last night the Carolina Hurricanes had a shutout win against the Los Angeles Kings. Can they follow that up with another win as they continue their week in California when they take on the San Jose Sharks tonight in the second installment of Hurricanes After Dark?

Last night the Carolina Hurricanes bounced back from their first loss of the season with a shutout win against the Los Angeles Kings in the first installment of Canes After Dark. The teams’ week long trip in California continues tonight as they enter The Tank and take on the Sharks.

Tonight is the second game in the Hurricanes back to back set of games. So now that they are acclimated to the time zone change and back to their winning ways, they should be ready to go.On the flip side after a bit of a slow start to the season, the Sharks last game was a 3-1 win against Calgary on Sunday.

The Hurricanes have been super hot this season. Dougie Hamilton continues to lead the team in scoring with 8 total points despite his scoring streak ending last night. Erik Haula leads the team with goals with 5 and Andrei Svechnikov leads the team with assists with 7. Petr Mrazek and James Reimer have been on fire.

Both are in the top 20 in the league in save percentage. With Reimer in particular being in the top 10 with a .933 save percentage is expected to get the start tonight against his former team.

Like previously mentioned the Sharks did get off to a slow start this season. They dropped the first four games of the season. But the return of longtime Shark and Canes legend Patrick Marleau seems to have ignited something within the team. He scored two goals in his first game back and got an assist in his second.

On the stat side of things, the Hurricanes are ahead of the Sharks in most categories. Ranging from the power play, goals scored per game, to shots per game. And as previously mentioned both Hurricanes goalies are playing great.

Prediction. 3. 109. 1. 120

Compared to Martin Jones and Aaron Dell‘s save percentages of . 887 and .884 respectively. But the Sharks are playing much better on than the penalty kill than the Canes right now. They currently have the sixth best penalty kill percentage in the league with 90%.

The Sharks aren’t a team that are known for their speed. With guys like Joe Thornton, Marleau, and Brent Burns they are are an older team. The Hurricanes are a young team that plays a very fast game and take a lot of shots. This could be a problem for San Jose. One bold prediction I have for tonight’s game is that Haydn Fleury will finally get his first NHL goal.
