A good playlist is essential when you’re going to any sporting event. What songs should you add to yours to make it the best one it can possibly be?

Having a good playlist is key for when you’re going to any sporting event, whether it’s a Carolina Hurricanes game, football, rugby, water polo, or anything in between. And of course if you’re tailgating, you want to have the best music playing, too. I’ll help you curate that perfect playlist for your upcoming game day.

Now, before we get started, let’s get this out of the way. Music is arguably the most subjective form of art. So, not everyone is going to like the same stuff. If I mention something that you don’t like, just ignore it and add whatever you want to your game day playlist. Let’s get into this.

The Classics

Now, there are classic songs spanning all genres that are staples of any sporting event. These are guaranteed to get you, your friends and family, and anyone else you’re with hyped for a Carolina Hurricanes game. So of course you’ll need to add some of these to your playlist.

  • Rock You Like A Hurricane- Scorpions
  • Seven Nation Army- The White Stripes
  • For Whom The Bell Tolls- Metallica
  • Lose Yourself- Eminem
  • Jump Around- House of Pain
  • The Final Countdown- Europe
  • Welcome To The Jungle- Guns ‘N’ Roses

The Carolina Hurricanes Victory Songs

Now, some of you may know about these already. But for those that don’t, allow me to get you up to speed. Last season, the Carolina Hurricanes had a collection of songs they’d listen to after a win. Sara Civian, of The Athletic Carolina, compiled all the songs into a Spotify playlist for us to enjoy.  So of course if these songs were what our favorite hockey team listened to, we have to do the same.

  • Mama Said Knock You Out- LL Cool J
  • You’re A Jerk- New Boyz
  • Stacy’s Mom- Fountains of Wayne
  • Gettin Jiggy Wit It- Will Smith
  • Cherry Pie- Warrant
  • Carry On Wayward Son- Kansas
  • Smack That- Akon,Eminem

New (and some not-so-new) Rock

Rock music is a staple of sports. Now ,of course there are the classic songs, but we already covered those. There are countless others that are perfect to get you and whoever you’re with ready for your next trip up to Raleigh for a Hurricanes game. Take a look at these bands and you may end up finding your next go to game day band.

  • Back From The Dead- Skillet
  • Live Wire- Motley Crue
  • I Will Not Bow- Breaking Benjamin
  • Haunted- Diamante
  • The Pretender- Foo Fighters
  • Born For Greatness- Papa Roach
  • Mayhem- Halestorm

Heavy Metal

Now, sometimes you just need something heavier. It may be because the Canes are going into a game against a team they have bad blood with, *cough* Habs *cough*. Or maybe it’s just something you prefer to listen to. While of course Metallica is always played at games, here are some other bands that you can bang your head to at the next game.

  • Domination-Pantera
  • Raise Your Horns- Amon Amarth
  • Bow Down- I Prevail
  • Thrown Into The Fire- Trivium
  • Nero Forte- Slipknot
  • 4 Words (To Choke Upon)- Bullet For My Valentine
  • Nothing Stands In Our Way- Lacuna Coil

Hip Hop

Now like rock, hip hop is a staple of all sporting events, not just at Canes games. That means there are, of course, the go-to songs. Those absolutely get people hyped up and ready to see their team take the field, or in our case, the ice. Now here are some others that should help get you ready for when the Jerks take the ice.

  • Legend Has It- Run The Jewels
  • rockstar- Post Malone feat. 21 Savage
  • Without Me- Eminem
  • Raise Up- Petey Pablo
  • DNA- Kendrick Lamar
  • Sabotage- Beastie Boys
  • Beast (Southpaw remix)- Rob Bailey & The Hustle Standard, Busta Rhymes, KXNG Crooked, Tech N9ne

There are countless other songs that could’ve been up here, but we’d be here well after hockey season starts if I put them all. So, what I’ve done is added all of these songs to a Spotify playlist. I’ll be adding stuff to it as time goes on, so make sure you keep an eye on it.

Note that there are explicit songs on here, so just keep that in mind if you don’t want your kids to hear something.
