A few weeks back, I managed to get a meetup planned with Carolina Hurricanes forward, Jordan Martinook. I’ll give the details on how the whole thing went down.

So, for those of you that are active on Twitter or are a member of the Carolina Hurricanes official fan group on Facebook, you’ve probably already seen this. But, for those that haven’t, on September 6th at 8pm at The Oak in Raleigh, there will be a Marty Party. I still am in shock that I was able to pull it off.

So I’m sure many of you may be thinking, “How in the heck did he manage to do that?”. And to be completely honest with you guys, I still don’t know. I’m still as shocked as you, if not more so, that it’s actually happening. But I’ll tell you how that night played out and maybe we can figure it out.

A friend of mine and I were at one of our local bars, The Flying Shamrock, just relaxing and having a couple beers after a few stressful days at work. After a while, I decide to fire up Twitter. Always a good idea when you’ve had a few drinks! I end up tweeting at Jordan Martinook, saying that I just want to have a beer with him. A few minutes later, my phone lights up from a Twitter notification, and this is what I see:

Obviously, some Red Oak comes out of my nose when I see this. My friend looks at me from across our table and asks me if everything is okay. All I do is hand him my phone. He’s almost as shocked as I am. So after I gather myself, I look up bars in Raleigh. After I find one, The Oak in Raleigh, I decide to reply to Marty. Had to shuffle the dates around a bit due to training camp, but we got it worked out.

After everything is settled, my phone is blowing up with notifications from Twitter, Facebook, and messages from my friends. One of the bartenders, who is a Nashville Predators fan, asked what was going on and I showed her and she almost spilled some guys beer because she was so shocked.

A few weeks later, when the Hurricanes announced that they were releasing their own beer, I happened to retweet that particular tweet asking if it would be out by September 6th because it’d be cool to drink that with Marty. Evidently, he agreed as well.

Now, one of the coolest parts about that night that everything went down was that I was wearing my Jordan Martinook shirt. No one could have planned how perfectly fitting that would end up being. Another thing is that in the midst of all that, I found the tweet about Cardiac Cane needing more people and I started my application that night at the bar.

Next. Carolina Hurricanes announce their own beer. dark

So Cardiac Cane readers my question for you today is, will you be there at The Oak in Raleigh on September 6th?
