Hamilton the pig is probably the best animal mascot in NHL history. The Carolina Hurricanes think so and so does he.

The Carolina Hurricanes official mascot is a pig. Stormy the ice pig is one of the best mascots in the league. But it gets muggy when they talk about if he is the number one mascot in the league. Where the conversation isn’t muggy is when we talk about the best animal mascot in the league and bring up another pig; Hamilton.

We asked Hamilton to tell us why he should be considered the best mascot in the league. After all it’s tough competition out there with all the puppies and even a calf! But we along with Hamilton agree that those animals don’t come within a snout length of the greatness that is the Playoff Pig.

Luckily for us we got a full article’s worth of Hamilton for you to read. For a pig, he is very articulate and a pleasure to add into our articles! So please enjoy:

Hey there Caniacs! Hamilton the Pig here with a little message to all those who feel that I may not be the best animal mascot in the league :

Do you ever feel like the world told you to zig and all you were meant to do was zag? Like maybe the world meant for you to spend your life rolling in mud, eating pig slop, living in a cage, or god forbid be eaten?  Do you ever feel Like you were meant for something else, something bigger?

Sometimes the most unlikely heroes emerge at a time of need. When your back is against the wall playing the defending stanley cup champs you look for inspiration in the most unlikely places… like maybe in the 6000 tailgating lot of game 3 of the Capital series.

While you are looking around seeing fans, (the best in the world) there you find me, Hamilton the Pig, cruising around in my sleek Radio Flyer covered in Canes gear spreading joy one picture at a time.*snort*

You ask what makes me the best “team pet”? The answer is simple, the fans and my insatiable appetite for winning, oh and carrots, love some carrots. The Caniacs have a history of supporting a bunch of jerks and now they have supported a #Playoffpig. I was born for this. Most of my pig friends don’t like a lot of noise, a lot of light, or even a lot of people. It frightens them. But I can’t be rattled.

I thrive off the sound, the crowd, the game! That’s what makes me unique, because like the Hurricanes, I couldn’t be rattled! I stood there tall in my wagon (sometimes napped for a minute or two) in the scariest of moments in the loudest of times. I refuse to budge when the fans needed me for a smile, or when they offered a nice crisp carrot.*snort*

I was lucky enough to be adopted at a young age by pig mom and pig dad.. and yes it’s true I was born on the day of the solar eclipse back in august of 2017. Does that make me extra lucky? ] Does my training by pig mom and pig dad make me more tolerable to the sounds and noises of the games?

Who knows how we got to where we are, but I can tell you that yes it’s true I was lucky enough to come home to a family that cares about the future of its newly revived Hurricanes hockey program.

What does a pig have to do with hockey? What does a pig have to do with anything in the south other than being eaten?

More from Cardiac Cane

People yelled “Bacon!” I yelled “*oink* Go Canes!” People yelled “Eat him!” I yelled “Surge Together! *snort*” Not only were the odds against this little piggy, but the odds were against an NHL team that deserved a win. We had a new team, a new coach, a new owner. This was meant to happen.

Our new leadership and our new team knows now is the time. When we were once again told to zig we looked back at the NHL and told them no, we are going to zag!  The investment in players is there. The new coach is no longer new, but tested. We are the future of the NHL. We are a Bunch of Jerks and we are ready to break the mold.

As the Hurricanes prepare for next season the energy of the city and its caniacs are back. The NHL has us ranked at 15th in the power rankings. That’s fine with me. Let us be the underdogs. We will prevail! The new season is still a couple of months away, the Pig Family and I are eagerly awaiting the opening night on October 3rd! So bring your cameras and your carrots! This is gonna be a great season!

As always, Go Canes! *oink* (now who has all the carrots?!)
