Tyler Myers

Tyler Myers is a big guy. Coming in at 6’8″ and 229lbs, Myers would bring a combined fast and physical presence to the Hurricanes’ blueline that hasn’t been seen since the days of Tim Gleason.

Myers, despite being a larger defenseman, is still offensively productive. The 29 year-old blueliner turned in 9 goals and 22 assists for a total of 31 points during 80 games played with the Winnipeg Jets this past season. Myers would be a huge pickup, both for the added physicality and the added help on the powerplay.

Myers is reportedly looking for a raise from his $5.5mil cap hit from 2018-19, and it is certainly due in my opinion. Myers is yet another right-shot defenseman, but could easily fill a slot on a top-4 defensive pairing.

Partnered with Jaccob Slavin or Brett Pesce, Myers could revolutionize the Hurricanes’ defensive contribution on both the powerplay and penalty kill. Myers is easily worth a $6.5mil AAV in a mult-year deal, and would seemingly fit right in with the Hurricanes’ team culture.
