What a week for the Carolina Hurricanes who lose to the worst team in hockey yet beat a Stanly Cup contender
Being a Carolina Hurricanes fan has to be one of the hardest followings in all of fandom. The franchise doesn’t win enough to make things fun(see Penguins and Blackhawks), yet hasn’t lost for long enough to create a mystique of suffering (see Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox).
Hasn’t that been the story of the Carolina Hurricanes for far too long? Neither good enough to win nor bad enough to get a Connor McDavid. This franchise has been the Pabst Blue Ribbon of the NHL; bland and winners of something so long ago that nobody believes it ever happened.

buoyed. Well written and uplifting in a rather zen-like way. Like Buddhism, it implores a calmness in accepting the things you cannot change. It definitely subdued my desires to smash things after Cam Ward let in the weakest goal I’ve ever seen this weekend so there’s that. It was also written by one of my favorite follows on Canes twitter @loveandhydrogen and I only follow the highest quality people.
Calm Before the Storm blog wrote about how the Carolina Hurricanes staying quiet at the trade deadline was the right thing to do. Not only am I linking this because I like it, but also because I agree with it. Take note for those people looking to crack the vaunted weekly links article. It’s a very exclusive club.
This next piece is an interesting break from talking hockey 24/7. Canes and Coffee details 31 different Jon Forslundisms from one of the most talented play by play people in the league. Come for the classics like “That’s hockey baby,” stay for “With his head on a swivel.”

Peter Dewar breaks down Sebastian Aho’s twentieth goal of the season. A good read for those people who look for a more nuanced view on hockey and the systems used in the game.
Finally, in the links, we come to a an article written by Dave Lozo of Vice Sports and Puck Soup podcast fame. Lozo breaks down the recent NHL GM meetings. Basically, it’s another reminder that the NHL hates their fans and never wants them to have anything nice.
