As the Carolina Hurricanes continue on in their 2015-2016 regular season, news and headlines will also continue to pop up around the entire league. This is the morning news.
As we enter the end of October, teams are starting to find their identities, but for some teams, it is also the time that they start to lose key players due to injury.
More from Cardiac Cane – Time to Panic with Eddie Lack?
Big news came out of Detroit this week as the Magic Man himself has returned to practice for the first time this season.
One Winnipeg Jets forward received the maximum fine on Monday due to a high hit in a game against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
Let’s take a look at today’s news.
The Magic Man Returns – NHL.com
Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk skated for half of the team’s practice on Monday.
The talented Russian playmaker had surgery on a ruptured tendon in his right ankle back in late June, and he is expected to return to the lineup by mid-November.

He has returned to practice with the team, but that doesn’t mean he is back to 100%.
“Feels better than when I started skating, but it’s hard to keep good pace,” Datsyuk said. “Team skates fast. I feel more confident, but it’s not close yet.”
A season ago, Datsyuk tallied 65 points in 63 games played, leading his Detroit Red Wings team to a playoff birth. The Wings were eliminated in the first round by the eventual Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts won the series in seven games.
After a fast start, the Red Wings are just 1-3-1 in their last 5 games.
Detroit will take on the Carolina Hurricanes at the Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night. A preview for the game can be found here.
Burmistrov Gets Fined – NBC Sports
Winnipeg Jets forward Alexander Burmistrov got fined $4,166.67 on Monday for a high elbow to Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon in Sunday night’s game. The fine is the highest amount allowable under the new NHL CBA.
There didn’t seem to be any dispute from Burmistrov on the elbowing call on Sunday, and for good reason. It was a very obvious elbowing penalty, though it isn’t worthy of a suspension. The fine placed on the former KHL transfer was appropriate.
The Winnipeg Jets are off to a 5-2-1 start this season. Burmistrov has 3 points in 8 games played.
Injuries Hitting a Few Teams Hard
The injury bug has hit the NHL, and some big name players have gone down with ailments over the past few days.

Carolina Hurricanes
Former Carolina Hurricanes forward and now New Jersey Devil Tuomo Ruutu is slated to miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured foot.
The Devils forward has skated in 3 games this season. The Devils are off to a 4-3-1 start despite a lack of production from Ruutu, who has yet to tally any points.
New York Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey will also likely be out for at least a month with a lower-body injury. The young blue liner suffered what appeared to be a left leg injury on Saturday in a game against the St. Louis Blues.
The Isles currently rank 3rd in the Metropolitan Division and sport a 5-2-1 record. The loss of an important top-6 defenseman will hurt, but Brian Strait is expected to step into his role while he is injured.
Evander Kane of the Buffalo Sabres will miss 4-6 weeks with an MCL injury in his left leg. Luckilly, he won’t require surgery.
Kane’s Sabres currently sit in 8th place in the Atlantic Division, posting a record of 2-6-0 through 8 games.
Finally, Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green was diagnosed with an undisclosed upper body injury suffered during a Saturday night game in Calgary. He is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
The Red Wings will also be without blue liner Kyle Quincey for the rest of the week.
