Former Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Aaron Ward has been arrested for assaulting a female and interfering with emergency communication.

Cary police confirmed today that former Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Aaron Ward was arrested on Friday for misdemeanor assault of his wife Kelly. She was also taken into custody for simple assault, which is also a misdemeanor, and has since been released.

Ward was a member of the 2005-2006 Stanley Cup winning team with the Carolina Hurricanes and became an analyst with TSN after retiring in August of 2010.

According to the report from WNCN, Ward has also been charged for interfering with emergency communication after taking his wife’s phone away.

Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer shed more light on the situation on Friday.

Aaron Ward is a veteran of 831 NHL regular season games and a three-time Stanley Cup champion. He tallied 44 goals and 151 points in the National Hockey League between 1993 and 2010. He is now 42-years-old.

On top of winning the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006, he was also a member of the 2001-2002 team that made it to the Stanley Cup finals. They fell to the Detroit Red Wings in a 5-game series.

Ward will serve his required 48 hours of jail time in a Wake County jail. After that, a bail will be set for the 18-year NHL veteran.

His future with TSN has yet to be clarified, but the company has come out and said that they are aware of the situation and that Ward will not appear on television with them until further notice.
