Stormy discusses the important issues, and the Canes' social team pokes fun at Philly

The action on the ice was fast and furious this weekend, resulting in more wins for Carolina, but there was just as much going on off the ice for the team.

With it being a busy weekend on the ice, we couldn't quite get to every story in a timely manner. However, the news cycle never sleeps, so there are two stories from late last week and this weekend that I wanted to briefly touch on because they seem to be making the rounds on social media and other major news outlets.

Neither story pertains to the group on the ice, though they've certainly been a good story over the last two weeks. The Carolina Hurricanes kept their hot stretch rolling with back-to-back wins in Chicago and Philadelphia. Their win streak sits at five games after dropping their opening two contests at home. However, not everyone in the organization was winning.

Stormy's joke falls flat online amidst questions about its intention

Before hitting the road this weekend, the Hurricanes hosted the Vancouver Canucks. On the ice, the home team dominated, aided by Logan Stankoven's hat trick, in a 7-2 win. However, there was a lot of debate about a moment involving Stormy. During a break in the first period, Stormy gave his thoughts on a very important issue pertaining to Metro Vancouver ahead of their elections in the coming days.

I won't pretend to understand the current Canadian political climate or the housing situation. I have a hard enough time making sense of everything going on in the United States right now. I appreciate those online who illuminated the situation to help me better understand it, so I'd encourage everyone to seek that out because I don't have a scathing take on this matter.

However, I got a kick out of this. I might not understand it, but this is my sense of humor. The team explained that it was meant to be a joke about Stormy throwing a very detailed stance on the housing situation while being an ice hog, and that's how I interpreted it. After all, he ended it with "Also, oink." It wasn't intended to diss anyone or make light of the situation. We just appreciate a hog in the know.

The Hurricanes' social media team claims Philadelphia as Canes' territory

If you have friends in Philadelphia and they're fans of Philadelphia sports, you should probably check on them. The Phillies were quickly dispatched in the Wild Card round; the Eagles are struggling, losing three straight games after a 2-0 start, including Sunday in London to the Jaguars; and the Flyers are winless through their first seven games, the longest streak to open a season in franchise history.

It's safe to say that things aren't going their way, and, at least on the Flyers' side of things, the Canes have played a hand in that. They made both of their trips to Philadelphia already this season, winning 3-2 in overtime on October 3 before riding a dominant second period on Sunday to beat them again, 4-1, and win their fifth straight game.

The Canes' Twitter/X admin didn't waste their chance to rub salt in the wound. They accurately pointed out that the Hurricanes have more wins in Philadelphia this month than any of their franchises. It has spread far and wide to mostly positive reviews. There's the odd Philly fan who took offense to it, but most got a good chuckle out of it. After all, it's just a game.
