With each passing day, we grow closer and closer to Opening Night, but there's still plenty of business to attend to before the Carolina Hurricanes officially drop the puck for the 2026-27 season. The team has been busy over the last few days, making sure their roster is filled out. However, the news on Friday focused more on what was happening between the boards.
Jarvis' rehab appears to be going well months after shoulder surgery
At the beginning of the summer, the team let us know that Seth Jarvis had shoulder surgery, which he'd been putting off for over a year. It was anticipated that he would miss a few months, likely putting him out for the beginning of the season. Some estimates had him out through the end of 2026. Obviously, we still don't know a lot, but if Friday was any indication, he's on the right track.
Before the rookies began their practice, Jarvis was on the ice and doing some skill work. A few media personnel caught a glimpse of Jarvis skating around and completing some drills. He even threw some pucks at the net. Now, he wasn't moving at full speed, and I'd bet that we won't see him for a good bit. However, the fact that he was on the ice working is about as good a sign as we could get.

The rookies hit the ice with the Prospect Showcase looming
While positive injury news is always welcome, the rookies are the center of attention for the next few days, with the Rookie Showcase taking place from Sunday to Tuesday at Lane Arena. The Canes' rookies got together on Friday before their opening game on Sunday against Nashville. With several big names within the organization taking part, we got a preview of what we could see this weekend.
The first thing that jumped out to me was Bradly Nadeau, Charlie Cerrato, and Felix Unger Sorum being placed on a line together. Each ranks among the team's top five or six best prospects, depending on your source, and it seems that this will be the team's top line. Ivan Ryabkin and Noel Fransen joined them on the top power play unit. It already has me excited for Sunday.

The Hurricanes announce their training camp schedule
On the other side of the showcase is training camp. The Canes released their schedule for the next few weeks, kicking off on Thursday in Morrisville. As in years past, the team will be split into two groups. The first group usually consists of the majority of the main roster, while the second group features mostly rookies and depth players, though we don't know how the groups will look just yet.
The team will get three full practices in before opening their preseason slate on Sunday, September 20, in Sunrise against the Panthers. The Canes will play a home-and-home against Florida before doing the same against the Nashville Predators. Their contest with the Predators on September 24 will be at the Greensboro Coliseum. Once they finish their four games, the real fun begins.
