2029-30- Jordan Staal
For Jordan Staal to be honored, there are a few dominos that need to fall. First, he would need to play a few more games to surpass his brother for the most in Hurricanes history, which feels highly likely. Second, he would need to retire and not play during the 2028-29 season. If those two things happen, Staal should immediately be named the honoree in five seasons.
His numbers don't jump off the page like his older brother, but he's one of the best defensive forwards in the league and has been for most of his career. As it stands now, Staal is a surefire Hurricanes Hall of Famer on the cusp of being in jersey retirement contention. If he can lead the Canes to a Stanley Cup as the captain or win the Selke Trophy, his #11 will absolutely be retired by the organization. Honestly, I think he deserves it regardless of whether the Canes win the Cup, but that's just me.
