It feels weird to talk about the preseason so shortly after the Carolina Hurricanes wrapped up their season less than two weeks ago. However, the team announced its preseason schedule on Thursday morning, featuring four games taking place across eight days this September. Featuring two games at home and on the road, they'll play home and homes with both Florida and Nashville.
You might remember that the Canes used to play six preseason games, including a pair with the Tampa Bay Lightning. You'll also remember that the league has expanded the regular season to 84 games beginning this October, making the Lightning a casualty of the process as the preseason is reduced to just four games.
The Canes will begin their preseason schedule on Sunday, September 20, in Sunrise, Florida, kicking off their home-and-home with the Panthers. The return trip will be two days later at the Lenovo Center. Then comes their two against the Nashville Predators. They'll play in North Carolina to start before closing in Nashville on September 28. All games, except for the finale, are scheduled for 7 pm.
The September 26 game against the Predators, while a home game, won't be played at the Lenovo Center. Instead, the Canes will make the trip down the road to Greensboro. This game will be played at First Horizon Coliseum, home of the ECHL's Greensboro Gargoyles and the original home of the Hurricanes, then known as the Greensboro Coliseum, when they moved to North Carolina.
We're still just about three months away from worrying about the preseason, but it'll be here before you know it. Personally, I like that the preseason has shrunk by two games. Everyone is already anxious for the start of the regular season, so getting to it quicker makes sense. Until then, we'll enjoy our relative peace and quiet, though that likely won't start until after July 1.
