The Hurricanes picked a very good time to announce another extension for a veteran

While on stage at the team's championship celebration on Saturday, GM Eric Tulsky announced a two-year deal to keep a pending free agent in Raleigh.

After months of hard work, the Carolina Hurricanes took some time on Saturday to celebrate their big accomplishment with the fans during their championship celebration parade in Downtown Raleigh. However, they also used this time to drop a bit of news, making the moment even sweeter for one player in particular. Now, he won't need to worry about finding a new home this offseason.

The team announced on stage that forward Nicolas Deslauriers would be sticking around for a little longer, signing the veteran to a two-year deal worth $1.75 million ($875k AAV). The team acquired Deslauriers from the Philadelphia Flyers at the trade deadline for a conditional late-round pick, though the condition wasn't met, so they essentially grabbed him for nothing.

Deslauriers didn't play a ton after the Canes nabbed him, suiting up for seven games, including the final six games of the campaign. During that time, he recorded just one assist, a helper in the team's 7-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. He also was in the lineup for Game 4 of the 1st Round against Ottawa, playing for the injured Nikolaj Ehlers in the series-clinching contest.

Based on the requirements to have your name engraved on the Stanley Cup, Deslauriers falls short, but one would have to believe that the organization will petition to have his name put on it, especially if he's staying in Raleigh for another two years. It would be the least they could do for a 13-year veteran who is on his sixth stop.

For as many incredible moments as we've gotten over the last few weeks, the team having him sign the contract on stage is just one more for the memory bank. It was already a joyous occasion for the entire organization, but to reward a player who, by all accounts, is an incredible person inside and outside of the locker room shows what it's all about. I couldn't be happier for Nicolas Deslauriers.
