Boris Babik will be back in the Camel City this season. The 26 year old Slovak has been acquired from the expansion Baton Rouge Zydeco. Babik was picked up by the new team during the FPHL expansion draft back in June and had been practicing with the team in camp.

Carolina sends the brothers Hussey (Forward Brendan and Goaltender Gregory) to the Zydeco for Babik and future considerations. The Hussey’s joined the Thunderbirds late last season just before the playoffs. Gregory spelled Babik while Mario Cavaliere was injured. He saw action in 4 games with a 3-1-0 record, 3.04 GAA and a .911 SV%. He also landed a 5 minute major for fighting in his first game as a Thunderbird. Brendan racked up 6 PIM in just 8 regular season games in Winston-Salem. In the post season he scored a goal to add to his six regular season points

Babik comes back to Carolina without numbers else where. In 26 games with the Thunderbirds, he posted a 16-6-0 record. His 3.18 regular season GAA was the 5th best in the league. A .911 SV% was also 5th best in the league. With 17 PIM he had the 4th most of goalies in the FPHL.

During the Thunderbird’s play off run last year, the 6’2 192 lbs goalie played in 9 games had his goals against creep to the upper 4’s (4.55) and his save percentage fall to .898 though he posted record of 2-1-0.

Carolina has one of the most interesting approaches to goaltending in that both Babik and Mario Cavaliere played almost half of the season in net. Cavaliere missed a handful of games due to an injury and all of the playoffs, which prompted the T-Birds to bring in Hussey, but Cavaliere has already reported to training camp.
