THEday we have been waiting for since the end of the season.
TODAY is…..the….first….CAROLINA HURRICANES GAME!!!!!!!!
If you are not excited, you can sit at home and eat plain crackers!
HOCKEY SEASON IS HHHHHEEEEEERRRRRRREEEEE!And to get us ready for a hockey season full of cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes, we are going to talk about hockey
ETIQUETTE
!
First let’s cover what the word
ETIQUETTE
means.
Do you know?
Have you heard that word before?
I bet you have heard a synonym (a word that has a similar meaning) for ETIQUETTE.
ETIQUETTE IS HOW YOU ACT AT A PARTICULAR PLACE. A synonym for ETIQUETTE is MANNERS.
I bet you have heard “Be on your best MANNERS.” before!
Hockey ETIQUETTE is simply how you act at a hockey game.
So, let me ask. How do you think you act at a Carolina Hurricanes game?
Would you……use the right fork, and nice cups and plates like you would at a fancy restaurant?
NOOOOOOOO! That would be silly.
If you eat food at a hockey game, you probably won’t have a plate, which is sort of the fun of it.
Would you…….stand up and cheer when the Hurricanes score a goal?
ABSOLUTELY!!
Cheering for your team to win is part of what is so fun about a hockey game, or any sporting event. You get to be loud, whoop, holler, do the wave and clap your hands when something happens.
GOOD HOCKEY ETIQUETTE is to cheer when everyone else is cheering, and NEVER BOOING.
Booing is bad hockey ETIQUETTE. Booing a bad call on the ice, or another team is just not good at all. BOOING YOUR TEAM IS EVEN WORSE.
Also very good hockey ETIQUETTE IS KEEPING CLOSE TO YOUR ADULT that brings you to the hockey game. There might be a lot of people at the game. Adults have to be very careful to keep an eye on you so you do not get lost. Keeping close to them, or holding a hand, will help them and is a excellent hockey game ETIQUETTE.
If you do get separated from your adult at a hockey game, IT IS OK! Do not get scared. It is time for you to be brave. BEING BRAVE IF YOU GET LOST IS GREAT ETIQUETTE.
Being brave, if you lose your adult, means finding someone in a uniform. A police officer, a paramedic, or even a fireman and letting them know you got separated from your adult. Give them your name, and the name of your adults. They will help you get back with your adults soon!
Whenever The Most Junior Hurricanes Reporter goes to a hockey game, he always practices what happens if he gets separated from his adults. The adults bringing him to the game remind him to go to a friendly police officer, paramedic, or a fireman and tell them he is lost. He goes over his name, and his adult’s name so that he can tell the officer.
Before you go to a hockey game, practice what you should do if you get separated from your adult. Practice your name, and the adult’s name. Remember to be brave and practice good ETIQUETTE.
Finally, one of my favorite pieces of hockey ETIQUETTE IS TO HAVE FUN! Hockey games are a great time to cheer, wiggle, hoot, holler, and clap! Your being at the hockey game and practicing good hockey ETIQUETTE will make it all the more fun!

THIS WEEK’S REVIEW
We learned about ETIQUETTE or HOW YOU ACT AT A PARTICULAR PLACE. Hockey games are a great time to cheer, and have a good time. You never BOOO at hockey games. Staying close to your adult at a hockey game is great hockey ETIQUETTE. If you get separated from your adult, BE BRAVE and always find a police officer or someone in a uniform. Tell them your name and your adult’s name. You can be brave and they will help you!
