An outdoor game is the highlight thus far for the ASU Ice Hockey season! Hockey in the high country is taking off and the Ice Neers are building a program that will compete against the rest of North Carolina.
On December 8th, the Mountaineers hockey team will be facing off against Kutztown University in the Spring Mountain Outdoor Classic in Kutztown, PA. This will be the Golden Bears’ first outdoor game as well, in what is becoming a trend in college hockey.

Appalachian starts the season in state with Wake Forest in Greensboro on September 8th, and Elon University in Hillsboro on the 9th before coming back to Greensboro with ECU on the 15th.
The Mountaineers then face The University Tennessee Ice Vols in the “Battle Of The Neers” on September 22nd and 23rd.

Finally the Mountaineers take to the road against the UNC-C 49ers in Charlotte, then take to the road to play Middle Tennessee State for two games.
November’s two games are against William & Mary in Winston-Salem at the Fairgrounds Annex on the 10th and 11th.

December has ASU playing High Point University for two games and the aforementioned outdoor game against Kutztown.

ASU has two games against the College of Charleston in Charleston before hosting Coastal Carolina.

App finishes out the season with two games against Christopher Newport University and two against Liberty University.

Losing only one senior, the Mountaineers will likely return a group of young players including 4 sophomores and Captain Sam Kasper of Cary, NC.

From sources close to the team, there are other big announcements to come, that we will certainly let you know about.
