You have a couple times a season fans and full season ticket holders. Fans that read everything they can get their hands on, and fans who might stumble on something to read for fun. We’re certainly happy for all of them. But, there are fans who create Carolina Hurricanes content like those here on staff at Cardiac Canes. Here is a look at or dedicated staff and why the decided to be come Canes Content Creators.

Avery Thomas- Writing was always my strongest talent growing up, and having autism spectrum disorder I have niche special interests, or things that I can get really focused on and that’s all I want to talk about. I’m a hockey fan because that’s my favorite sport and the Hurricanes are a special interest that I have. Why not combine this with my writing talent? I got my bachelors in communication studies and originally wanted to work in social media marketing or public relations after college. My dream job was to work for the Canes’ PR and media team, but going to UNC-Greensboro, I didn’t have the same advantage as NC State or more local students when it came to opportunities to start working in that field. Since that career path seemed unlikely for me, I decided to make my own content. If it didn’t take off, at least I was doing something I like. I started my own hockey blog and shared it in fan groups I am in on Facebook, and it gained a good amount of views. A few weeks after I started writing, Chris actually reached out to me about Cardiac Cane, so I took the opportunity

Keith Preston- I’ve only ever dabbled with writing, but it usually comes easy when it’s something I’m passionate about. I have been following Cardiac Cane for some time and saw they were looking for people to join the team. I sat on it for a while before deciding it was for me.

Ben Huffman- For as bad as the pandemic was, I have COVID to thank for getting me into writing about the Canes. While stuck at home, I started my own blog just for my own sanity, writing about hockey to help pass the time. I wasn’t doing it to get attention or for other people to flock to it. I was really doing it because I love writing and I always have. I applied as a content creator to Cardiac Cane on a whim and was very fortunate to be accepted. It was a perfect opportunity to do what I enjoy about the team I love.

Harvey Ashner- I have always been passionate about sports media and wanted to be in the industry. When I lived in Winston-Salem I would go to the Thunderbirds games and landed a job to be a part of the promo team in 2018. As my love for the game grew, and watching the Hurricanes I really wanted to contribute in some form.  I started an instagram Hurricanes fan account and got a little following. I really enjoyed making content and wanted to see where I could go with it. Once I saw this opportunity, I thought it would give me an outlet to grow my skills in the industry.

Chris Baker- Becoming a STM, even for 11 games, meant I was going to stick some things out here in Raleigh. I was ready to move (again), but something told me to hang around to see what might happen. Canes tickets kept me here in Raleigh for at least the hockey season, so I decided I need to create for myself something of a community. Just a lame experience of going to games and not knowing anything about what’s happening was not going to cut it for me. Finding Cardiac Cane, and making content here has allowed me to get plugged into the Hurricanes community and experience the games differently. Plus it has given me an outlet to bang away on a keyboard constructively when otherwise I wouldn’t.
