If The Carolina Hurricanes Were Grateful Dead Songs

I listen to a lot of the Grateful Dead. The Carolina Hurricanes are about the only professional sports team I follow. No one said the “Never the Twain Shall Meet.”

Also…..Grateful Dead night at PNC? I’d buy tickets and camp out in a VW Microbus for that in a heartbeat!

Sebastian Aho- Sugar Magnolia
The Grateful Dead’s best record is American Beauty. Sugar Magnolia is the first track on that record. In it, it talks about wading in a drop of dew. Seems like something Aho might do. I dunno.

Brent Burns- Tennessee Jed
I’m from Tennessee, and I have the honor of being from East Tennessee. If there is a single Carolina Hurricane who embraces East Tennessee, and the stereotypical hillbilly, it’s Brent Burns. (I can say this, but if you do….I’ll send you down a river toward the banjo music)

Jordan Martinook- Loose Lucy
Just something about style of play. He’s fast, loose, and a real good time. Plus, this is one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs. Marty is maybe my all time favorite Carolina Hurricane, so it only makes sense.

Brady Skjei- Big River OR Touch Of Gray
Let’s get real here. Skjei is perhaps the best looking gentleman on the team. He would definitely have people of all stripes chasing him up and down the Mississippi River. Touch of Gray is obvious. That little whisp has everyone swooning. Don’t lie, you did too.

Tony DeAngelo- Bertha
“Bertha don’t you come around here any more” It is pretty obvious that no one wanted Bertha around, and there are plenty of people that would rather see TDA on tour through the former Soviet Republics with a third rate Grateful Dead cover band than with the Hurricanes.

Andrei Svechnokov-Estimated Prophet
Longtime Grateful Dead lyricist John Perry Barlow hit the nail on the head when he wrote “ Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light. Rising up to paradise, I know, I’m gonna shine” We all want Svech to shine, and score plenty of goals.

Seth Jarvis- Truckin’
This song is about the Grateful Dead rambling and brambling along. Jarvy seems to be a master craftsman at the rambling. Plus I think if there is a dude BESIDES Burns who would drive a truck, it’s Jarvy. A 1993 Toyota 4×4 with an extended cab to be exact.

Teuvo Teräväinen- Morning Dew from Europe ‘72
This song just fits Turbo. Seems like something he might have on repeat to get himself hyped up.

If you are not a fan of the Grateful Dead, I would recommend them. Start with a studio record. Depending your taste “Working Man’s Dead” or “American Beauty.”  Once you’ve hit both of those, check out some live shows. If you are, I am sure you have some strong opinions about these songs, and maybe some suggestions of your own. Hit me up on social media and let me know what your takes.
