Felix Unger Sorum Could Have a Very Interesting Spot In Carolina’s Future

Felix Unger Sorum is maybe the most exciting of the draft picks from Carolina’s 2023 NHL Draft crop. If not the most, then the second most for sure.  Unger Sorum agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Hurricanes on Saturday with perhaps the longest of the draft pick’s contracts. And maybe the easiest nickname joining the Canes in some years. If you know, you know.

Felix Unger Sorum
BASEL, SWITZERLAND – APRIL 29: Andrew Gibson of Canada (L) trying to stop Felix Unger Sorum of Sweden (R)

Unger Sorum is going to bring Carolina a skilled passer and he’ll likely even do the dishes, sweep, and mop.

Given the right shooters, Unger Sorum can produce an assist a game. Playing with Sweden in the International Juniors Unger Sorum had 11 helpers and 3 goals in 14 games. At the U18 World Juniors, he had 8 assists in 7 games. With 2 goals to boot.

Suffice it to say the kid can put points on the stat sheet.

I cannot help but think, with some time getting used to North American hockey, either in the ECHL with the Norfolk Admirals or on an AHL team, we could be seeing Unger Sorum on a deep line with the Hurricanes next year as a reasonable replacement for Staal when the time comes. Possibly by the end of the year with the right minor league experience.

Unger Sorum might struggle in the size department, especially in the shadow of Staal. While his  skill set looks more like a Teuvo Teräväinen, his immediate spot, at best, would be on a line to serve as the passer to Jesper Fast. With line configuration fluid, as always with Rod Brind’Amour, it is likely that if Unger Sorum was playing with the Hurricanes on opening night, he could be on a first or second line.

Who knows??

Those are big time “IFS ” and not likely to happen, so if you want to @ me on social media about the above statements, you can, but it’ll only prove your reading comprehension scores.

No matter where he hits the ice, or the line on which he is playing, the 17 year old righty will be supporting an explosive offense as he has with Sweden in international play, and with Leksands IF

Felix Unger Sorum might not cook, or clean but he can show you how he “got dat ring” at least on the ice. As an assist machine, I cannot wait to see where on the line up he helps the Carolina Hurricanes.

P.S The movie was better!
