Kids Canes: Draft Updates As The Canes Make Some Awesome Picks
If you haven’t heard already, the NHL (National Hockey League) Draft took place last week. The Carolina Hurricanes picked up some great draft picks that will surely make the Canes that much better.
DRAFTING is when teams (of any sport) pick new players to come play for them. Just like your teams in the neighborhood, at school, or hanging out with your friends, NHL teams like the Hurricanes pick their teams.
When the teams pick the players is called a DRAFT.
As I explain it to the “Most Junior Hurricanes Reporter” its is simply saying “Hey you are on my team now”
Each team in a draft takes turns picking players they want to come play for them. Each time all the teams are done picking is called a ROUND.
The very first draft pick was Connor Bedard. The Chicago Blackhawks had the very first pick, so they took who they thought was the very best player out there ready to be picked.
Carolina had the 30th pick in the first round. The Canes picked Bradley Nadeau.
Bradley Nadeau is from St.-Francois de Madawaska, New Brunswick, Canada and have been playing for the Penticton Vees. He is a forward (they try to score) and is VERY good.
Last year, he scored 45 goals! That is a lot of goals!
In total, the Carolina Hurricanes drafted 10 players this year.
Here is a list of those players.
Bradley Nadeau
Felix Unger-Sorum
Jayden Perron
Alexander Rykov
Stanislav Yarovoi
Charles-Alexis Legault
Ruslan Khazheyev
Timur Mukhanov
Michael Emerson
Yegor Velmakin
Will all of these players end up playing for the Carolina Hurricanes?
We do not know, but they might!
We hope they will play very hard and get to be a star with the Hurricanes.
Kids Canes Challenge Answer:
We asked about what a DRAFT was, and if you knew what it was. DRAFTING players simply means saying “Hey you are on my team now.” Maybe you have been a party of a draft and not even known it?!?!

The Most Junior Hurricanes Player and I got a book at the library over the weekend that had the term “HAT TRICK” in it. Do you know what a HAT TRICK is?
