Ryan Dzingel is a Carolina Hurricane again! Today, the Carolina Hurricanes announced Dzingel signed a one-year, two-way deal with the organization he was traded from a few years ago. It carries a league minimum cap hit at the NHL level, and he will receive $150,000 at the AHL level with $200,000 certain to be going into the pocket of the Wheaton, Illinois native.

Dzingel is a massive addition to the depth chart because he has played in this system before, under this head coach. We know he is a good fit around this current group because he has been there before. We know what he is and we know he can be plugged into this lineup if there are injuries or a Covid outbreak, Dzingel is someone that fits into this lineup and can fit into a lot of situations.

During his first stint in Raleigh, Dzingel was used in all situations. Being given powerplay time and asked to kill penalties in addition to his normal 5-on-5 time saw Dzingel become a rich the Hurricanes didn’t need. He was traded to Ottawa during the 2021 Pandemic shortened season and he’s kind of become a journeyman since leaving the tar heel state. We hope for the best for him, but there’s no certainty in sports.

Dzingel was traded from Arizona to Toronto last year, and promptly waived upon his arrival to Canada. From there, he was claimed by the San Jose Sharks and spent the rest of the season in California. With Dzingel seemingly returning to earth after some 20 goal season in Ottawa and being shipped at the 2018 trade deadline to Columbus, Carolina is yet again where he seeks some form of normalcy.

Returning to Raleigh, it is unlikely we see Dzingel hit his former stride. His first stint in Carolina started of very well, and it seems less likely with every passing day that the Illiniois native will be in Carolina instead of going home to the Chicago Wolves. Either way, this is a very nice signing to complete the depth of the roster.
