Hurricanes lose first game 7 since relocation and get eliminated by Rangers
For the first time since relocation, the Carolina Hurricanes lost a game seven. It was in the second round against a New York Rangers team that this Carolina Hurricanes squad should have beaten, but we’ll talk about that another time. As for now, we have to talk about the 6-2 loss the Hurricanes found themselves on the wrong end of in an elimination game in the playoffs.
What can you say about this one other than the Rangers’ offense just dominated the game? Carolina couldn’t keep up with the high-scoring power the Rangers possess. It wasn’t a good matchup and the Canes couldn’t take a game at Madison Square Garden and now they’re out because they couldn’t get their offense to wake up. They’re going to need to make changes to their roster because of it.
Carolina’s goaltending story had been a fairytale all season long and in-game seven, the clock struck midnight and Antti Raanta was hurt, forcing a rookie netminder into the crease and he got shelled. Raanta was going to be out for a while even if the Hurricanes progressed into the third round so there was always going to be that element of the unknown with what happens from now on.
And so it is, the 2021-22 chapter of the Carolina Hurricanes is in the history books. A season filled with great success, franchise history, and some fantastic moments throughout, ends with the bitter taste of defeat in the second round to the team you just beat to the division title in the first game seven loss the team has seen since it was relocated 25 years ago. It’s never fun to lose, but it was a good year of Hurricanes hockey.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the great Caniac nation around the globe cheering on the team through thick and thin. We do not know if the Hurricanes would have made it this far if it wasn’t for the loudest house in the NHL being in Raleigh, so the team owes a lot to the fans and the crowd that made this such a great year for the organization.
