Carolina’s decisive win on home ice in game five presents a chance for them to knock their Metropolitan Division rivals out of the playoffs and move on to the Eastern Conference Finals as they could set up a date with the Tampa Bay Lighting. However, before they can do that, they must eliminate the Rangers and they could do that tonight by winning their first road game of the season.

With the two teams both remaining perfect on home ice, this is looking to be an uphill battle for the Hurricanes. Through the first 12 games of the postseason for Carolina, the home team has won every game. All seven in the Boston series and the first five through this series have been by whichever team has home ice. Why is that? I’m not too sure, but Carolina has home ice in this one.

With all three of the other series already being resolved, Carolina and New York will be the center of attention in the hockey world. This is a chance for people to etch their name long into the memories of the hockey community. Whoever wins this series, it’s going to be talked about by everyone for the next couple of days because it is the only series still on. Perfect time to show off what you can do.

Special teams are going to be the name of the game tonight. If you can’t stay out of the box like the Canes cannot, the team needs to make sure that you can kill off the powerplays the Rangers get. Special teams away from home have been awful so a good performance when up or down a man or two, it could go along way to securing a berth in the Conference Finals for the first time in a few years.
