Game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs is in the book, and the Hurricanes emerge victorious by the final score of 5-1. It was a score that Carolina certainly inflated late in the game, but it wasn’t a game that Carolina ever looked like they were going to lose control of after they took their lead. It was a great start to the series at PNC Arena for the Hurricanes as they look to continue to build on their series lead.

Despite this being a game that could have gone either way, the Hurricanes managed to run up the score in large part due to their goalie. Antti Raanta got the first start of his playoff career in this one, and he was the first star of the game, stepping up big time in the absence of Carolina’s Vezina finalist. There’s no denying that Raanta was the only reason Carolina stayed in this game early. Great way to end your first career playoff start.

When we think about the off-ice stuff that has happened between these organizations, we have to think about the car comparisons. Last night, Carolina’s Prius out-performed the Lambo in the Bruins lineup. Capping the game off with a goal from an incredible angle into the net off the face of the Boston netminder, Vincent Trocheck was the second star of the game and ended with a goal and an assist.

Finally, it’s only fair we cap this off with the Hurricanes’ rookie phenom. Seth Jarvis has been nothing short of spectacular for the Hurricanes as of late, and he scored the first goal of the series in this one and was vital for the team throughout the game. If he keeps doing this for the remainder of his time in Raleigh, this is a player that is going to be a core member of the team for a long time. Solid at both ends, and scoring consistently.
