Tonight, the Hurricanes host the Ducks as the team from Orange County looks to get revenge for a hard-fought 2-1 win by the Canes earlier in the season. This is a very different Anaheim team from the one the Canes met in California way back when. With three of the big Anaheim free agents now in new homes, this is not the big monster it was when the Canes ended the Ducks 9 game winning streak.  But that was a long time ago.

Carolina has had an awful run of results leading into this. It’s no secret that the Canes need this game if they want to keep pace at the top of the Metropolitan Division as they currently only lead on points percentage, having seen a 10 point lead at the top of the Metropolitan Division disappear before their eyes.

With the team in need of two points, it seems the Canes are going to turn to their Danish shot-stopper. Frederik Andersen is expected to lead the Canes for this one as the Vezina candidate looks to try and help the Canes reestablish their winning ways. They will need the Danish shot-stopper to do what he does best if the team is going to get back to winning ways. This is a ducks team that can score when they want to.

If we’re going to see the Canes get back to winning ways, they will need to prove themselves against this Ducks team. It’s a team they should beat and need to beat. They’ve lost something like 12 of the last 16, and the canes need the points. They’re a struggling giant but a giant nonetheless. By no means will this be an easy game for the Canes, but they need to play well and they’ll outclass their opponent. They have access to skills Anaheim just doesn’t have.
